All kudos to Buloke residents - we are great recyclers

Great news for all of us living in Buloke Shire and in Wycheproof;  we are 'ripper' recyclers. According to the latest news from Wimmera Mallee Waste, the stats are in and in 2012, collectively, we sent just over 620 tonnes of recyclable material to Melbourne depots for sorting saving our local landfill and helping our environment. That is around 97kg of recycled waste per person in our shire. Should we set a recycling goal for 2013 and at least double it?

However, all is not 100% rosy on the recycling front and it seems we need reminding to separate all household waste and not contaminate what can be recycled.

A good reminder and some handy dos and don'ts are in the February edition of our town newsletter, Wycheproof on Track.

To recap:

Don't bag your recycling.

Place all items for recycling (newspapers, bottles and tin cans) loose in your yellow topped bin.

Garden prunings and lawn clippings are not part of the recycling program.

Use prunings and clippings to make your own compost for your garden.

Clothing is not part of the recycling program

Clothing in good condition can be donated to the Wycheproof Op Shop.
To find a reuse for rags either use them as dusters yourself, or talk to your local mechanic or tradie who may be able to use rags for their workshop.

For more about recycling and finding a new use for household items see the Central Murray Waste Management Group website.  If you need more information about what to put in your bin contact Wimmera Mallee Waste on 03 53951 377.
